Our Sponsor (Selfreliance)

Selfreliance Association of Ukrainian Americans, Inc.
New York Branch
The Ukrainian Saturday School in New York exists and thrives thanks to the support of our principal sponsor — the New York Branch of the "Selfreliance" Association of Ukrainian Americans ("Samopomich"). This organization has for many years been a cornerstone of the Ukrainian community in the New York city and consistently invests in the preservation of language, culture, and education.
The Mission of Selfreliance Association
The organization works with a clear goal:
-
to preserve and popularize Ukrainian cultural heritage, to develop knowledge of the Ukrainian language, culture and traditions;
-
to support an active and cohesive Ukrainian-American community;
-
provide social assistance to community members as needed.
-
Selfreliance Association implements programs that create a vibrant space for Ukrainian presence in New York: it supports the Ukrainian library, conducts seminars on current topics, organizes meetings for senior community members, and organizes events and outreach throughout the year.
Most importantly for us — Selfreliance Association sponsors Heritage School of Ukrainian Studies and supports educational programs from preschool through 11th grade, where children study the Ukrainian language, literature, history, geography, music, and culture.
The organization is also a sponsor of Self Reliance New York Federal Credit Union and notes that the credit union serves as an important source of financial support for the Ukrainian-American community.
